La Sure, Limestone mountain summit in Chartreuse massif, Isère, France.
The mountain peak reaches an elevation of 1643 meters, featuring steep cliffs and alpine meadows that extend across the western border of the Chartreuse range.
During the 19th century, several mountain chalets dotted the slopes of La Sure, serving as shelters for local shepherds tending their flocks in summer months.
The name Sure originates from ancient linguistic roots connecting Umbrian and Slavic terms referring to elevated geographical formations and mountainous terrain.
The main hiking trail starts from Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, covering 20 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1548 meters through a marked forest path.
The mountain contains protected species including the Lady's Slipper Orchid and serves as a habitat for chamois populations in its upper alpine zones.
