La Sure, Limestone mountain summit in Chartreuse massif, Isère, France.

La Sure is a limestone mountain peak in the Chartreuse massif standing at about 1,640 meters (5,380 feet) with steep rocky faces on its western side. Alpine meadows cover the slopes and define the edges of this mountain formation.

The region has a history of summer herding dating back to the 19th century, when shepherds brought flocks to the slopes during warm months. This practice shaped the mountain landscape for generations.

The name Sure comes from ancient linguistic roots referring to elevated geographical formations. You can still find traces of this naming tradition in the local place names across the region today.

The hike from the valley floor is demanding and requires sturdy footwear and good endurance for steep sections. Weather can change quickly at higher elevations, so come prepared for shifting conditions.

Chamois roam the upper zones and are often spotted during early morning hours in their natural habitat. These animals are well adapted to the harsh alpine environment and add to the hiking experience.
