Cumpuleddu

Cumpuleddu is a natural granite arch formation located in the Bavella mountain range of Corsica. The structure spans approximately 8 meters and sits at an elevation of about 1350 meters, where erosion has shaped the rock into its distinctive arch shape.

The name derives from Corsican and means small enclosure, reflecting its historical use by shepherds. In earlier times, the location functioned as a pastoral grazing area where herds of sheep and goats were kept in the mountain region.

The natural formation stands along the GR20 hiking trail, marking an important point for hikers traversing through the mountainous regions of Corsica.

The formation is reachable via hiking trails that take around 2.5 hours round trip from Col de Bavella. The path crosses pine forests and rocky ground, so sturdy footwear and plenty of water are recommended for the journey.

The arch developed through specific erosion patterns in the granite, creating a distinctive geological feature. The location lies along the famous GR20 hiking trail and serves as a notable landmark for trekkers navigating the mountain range.
