Capu Rossu, Mountain summit in Manso, Corsica, France
Capu Rossu is a mountain summit in Corsica that rises about 2100 meters above sea level with red granite cliffs dropping directly to the Mediterranean. The peak offers sweeping views from its top across the coastline and sea, with steep rocky faces on multiple sides.
The Turghju Tower was built around 1600 and formed part of a larger defensive chain along the Corsican coast. This network of several towers helped protect islanders from pirate attacks.
The name 'Land of the Four Towers' refers to watchtowers that once protected communities from attacks at sea. From the top, visitors can see how these fortifications were positioned and understand how local people defended their coastline.
The hike begins west of Piana and leads through rocky terrain to a viewpoint at the summit. Sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water are important since there is little shelter from sun and wind along the way.
The summit sits at one of the westernmost points of Corsica. Only one other location on the island, the Gargalo peak within the Scandola nature reserve, extends further west.
