Rocher Corbeley, Mountain summit in Chartreuse region, France.
Rocher Corbeley is a mountain summit in the Chartreuse region that rises to 1,166 meters (3,826 feet). It marks the northernmost peak of the Outheran chain in the French Alps.
The mountain formed through tectonic movements that created the median anticline structure. This geological formation extends northward toward Saint-Thibaud-de-Couz.
The mountain paths around Rocher Corbeley connect to the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, which traverses through the Chartreuse natural park.
The summit can be reached via a loop trail of about 12 kilometers starting from Saint-Thibaud-de-Couz with roughly 1.100 meters of elevation gain. The hike is demanding and requires good fitness and sturdy footwear.
The eastern slope features the Col du Planet pass, where Fontanil limestone formations resist erosion and connect through multiple geological fault lines.
