Pointe de la Sure

Pointe de la Sure is an alpine summit in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, reaching approximately 1643 meters high. The peak is crossed by multiple hiking trails that traverse rocky slopes and exposed ridges.

Paths over this mountain were first created during the Middle Ages by monks seeking to connect different regional monasteries. These early routes became the foundation for the hiking trails that exist today.

Shepherds from the region have used these slopes for livestock grazing throughout the summer season for generations. This practice shapes how the landscape looks and how local communities interact with the mountain environment.

Reaching the summit takes between three and six hours of walking depending on which route you choose. The marked trails are well signposted, but visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions at higher elevations.

This mountain is home to a population of griffon vultures that nest within its rocky cliffs. From the summit, you can see across the Grande Sure chain and have the chance to watch these large birds soaring in their natural habitat.
