The mountain became a regular destination for climbers starting in the 19th century as mountaineering developed in the Pyrenees. Its border location made it a natural waypoint in the early exploration and mapping of the range.
Shepherds from both the French and Spanish sides have walked these mountains for generations, moving flocks seasonally across the border. This pastoral tradition remains visible in the worn paths and stone structures that crisscross the slopes.
The main route starts from the French village of Lescun or from the Spanish side via the Linza Mountain Hut. The climb follows natural pathways that are manageable for people with basic mountain experience and proper equipment.
On clear days the summit offers views across to other notable peaks like Midi d'Ossau and Collarada, making it an excellent vantage point. These sight lines create connections with a wider landscape of mountain landmarks throughout the region.
