Rocca dell'Abisso

Rocca dell'Abisso is a mountain summit in the Maritime Alps within Mercantour National Park, reaching an elevation of 2261 meters. The peak offers expansive views across surrounding mountain ranges and the protected park landscape.

After World War II, the area was transferred from Italy to France in 1947 through a regional plebiscite. This territorial shift shaped the modern border and the region's current administration.

The mountain reflects the blend of French and Italian alpine heritage through its dual naming as Rocca dell'Abisso and Roche de l'Abisse. Visitors encounter this cross-border identity in the landscape and trail markings.

The hike to the summit starts from SP312 near Limonetto and covers about 14 kilometers with roughly 1378 meters of elevation gain. The terrain is demanding and calls for solid fitness and mountain hiking experience.

The summit sits on the France-Italy border and offers views spanning both countries from its position. This location makes it a special spot for understanding the cross-border geography of the region.
