Cap Brun

Cap Brun is a coastal cape near Toulon that juts into the Mediterranean with steep rocky cliffs dropping toward the water. Several natural viewing spots along the shoreline allow visitors to stand at different heights and take in the rock formations and sea views.

This place served as a lookout point to monitor and defend the harbor of Toulon in earlier centuries. Military fortifications were built here for that purpose and left traces that visitors can still see in the landscape today.

The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when winds calm down and the views are clearest. Wear sturdy shoes because the rocky paths are uneven and can be slippery, especially when wet.

Between the rocks grow rare Mediterranean plants that have adapted to harsh winds and salt spray from the sea. This delicate vegetation is found at only a few places along the French coast and is easy to miss if you do not look closely.
