The stone building features Romanesque Revival architecture with restored interior frescoes and occupies numbers 57-59 on Boris Gaponov Street in Kutaisi.
The synagogue was constructed in 1885 during a period when the Jewish community of Kutaisi developed into one of the largest in Georgia.
This religious center maintains regular services for Shabbat and Jewish festivals while preserving Georgian Jewish traditions in the second largest city of Georgia.
The synagogue stands 200 kilometers northwest of Tbilisi and can be reached by minibus in 4 hours or by train in approximately 5.5 hours.
Three synagogues line Boris Gaponov Street, named after the scholar who translated the Georgian epic 'Knight's Panther-skin' into Hebrew.
