Kintrishi Strict Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Kobuleti Municipality, Georgia
Kintrishi Strict Nature Reserve is a protected area in Kobuleti Municipality covering terrain from river valleys to mountain peaks. The reserve contains dense forests along the Kintrishi River and spreads across the Khino Mountains with vegetation changing as the elevation rises.
The Georgian government established this protected zone in 1959 to safeguard ancient forests and species found nowhere else. The reserve was created to shield relict ecosystems and endemic wildlife from pressures that threatened their survival.
The stone arch bridges in Tskhemvani and Kobalauri villages reflect traditional building methods passed down through generations. These structures stand as markers of how people historically adapted their engineering to the mountain landscape.
Two marked trails allow visitors to hike or ride horses through different elevations across the landscape. Camping and picnic spots are set up throughout the area for overnight stays and meal breaks.
Every autumn more than a million raptors from over 30 species cross the reserve during their migration southward. The location serves as one of the region's most important corridors for this bird movement.
