Georgian National Museum

The Georgian National Museum is a major collection on Rustaveli Avenue that displays objects spanning thousands of years of history. The exhibits range from early human remains to modern works, providing an overview of the life and craftsmanship of this region.

The institution began in 2004 through a decree that brought together several collections that previously operated separately. This merger made it possible to present Georgia's history from earliest times to the present day in one place.

The museum displays medieval sculptures, metalwork, and traditional crafts that reflect how Georgian society understood itself across generations. These collections show how people lived here, what mattered to them, and how they expressed their beliefs.

The museum is located near a metro station and is open several days a week. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as the exhibits span multiple floors and there is much to see.

The museum preserves human remains from around 1.8 million years ago found at Dmanisi that rank among the oldest outside Africa. This discovery shows that people have inhabited this region for an incredibly long time.
