Rustaveli Cinema, Movie theater on Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi, Georgia.
Rustaveli Cinema is a movie theater on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, located directly opposite the Parliament of Georgia. The four-story building features Corinthian pilasters and a rusticated ground floor, with the main hall and additional screening areas inside.
The cinema opened in 1939 with 1200 seats, built on the former site of the Hauptwacht and Kaloubni Church during the Soviet era. Following major renovations in 1999, the building was designated a cultural heritage monument.
The exterior displays sculptures by Valentin Topuridze and Shota Mikatadze showing farmers, workers, athletes, and families in arched niches. These works reflect the social ideals of the era they were created in.
The theater is easily accessible from Rustaveli Avenue, one of the city's main pedestrian zones in the downtown area. Visiting in the afternoon or evening allows you to see the exterior lighting highlight the facade details.
The building blends post-constructivist and Stalinist architectural styles, representing an important example of Soviet-era design from that period. This architectural mix makes it a distinctive landmark on the street that catches visitors' attention.
