Bust of Pushkin in Tbilisi, Bronze monument at Freedom Square, Tbilisi, Georgia
The monument at Freedom Square is a bronze bust mounted on a pedestal of red and gray stone quarried from Kutaisi. The sculptor Felix Khodorovich created this work, which was placed in the square during the late 19th century.
The bronze casting was completed at the Karl Werfel foundry in St. Petersburg and arrived in Tbilisi during 1892. Its installation marked an important moment of cultural recognition in the Georgian capital during that era.
The sculpture honors a major figure in Russian literature whose works deeply influenced Georgian poets and writers across generations. It serves as a gathering point where visitors reflect on shared literary traditions between cultures.
The monument stands permanently in an open square and is freely accessible at any time of day or night. You can view the sculpture in all seasons and during any weather conditions.
The pedestal was designed by Italian artist Vincenzo Palazzi using stone from quarries specifically selected near Kutaisi. This choice of local materials gives the work a direct connection to the Georgian region.
