Komos Beach

Komos Beach is a shoreline along Messara Bay that stretches for several kilometers with sandy dunes and open water views. The beach divides into different sections, each with its own character and facilities.

This location was an important port for the ancient city of Phaistos, showing a long connection between sea and land. Remains of old storage areas and shipyards reveal how actively this harbor was once used.

The northern part of the beach, called Potamos, attracts visitors who prefer to sunbathe without clothes, a practice deeply rooted in this area for decades. This open approach shapes how people experience this stretch of shore.

The southern section has sunbeds, showers, a small canteen, and a lifeguard, with parking near the archaeological area. The best visiting season runs from April to October when water is warm and conditions stay favorable.

From May to September, sea turtles called Caretta caretta come to shore to bury their eggs in the sand. This makes the location a key breeding ground where visitors sometimes spot the nests.
