Pantokratoros monastery, Orthodox monastery on Mount Athos, Greece
The Pantokratoros Monastery stands upon a rocky formation on the northeastern side of Mount Athos, featuring Byzantine architecture and traditional monastic structures.
Founded in 1361 by Alexios and John with support from Emperor John V Paleologos, the monastery received its official status through an imperial chrysobull.
The monastery library maintains a collection of 350 manuscripts and 3,500 printed works, documenting centuries of Orthodox Christian scholarship and traditions.
Access to the monastery requires special permission and remains restricted to male visitors, following the established regulations of Mount Athos.
The monastery holds the seventh position in the Mount Athos hierarchy and preserves the shield fragment of Saint Merkourios among its religious artifacts.
