Konstamonitou monastery

The Konstamonitou monastery stands at 200 meters elevation on the southeastern slope of Mount Athos, surrounded by dense forest vegetation.

Founded in the tenth century by monk Konstamonites, the monastery received support from Byzantine emperors before experiencing a devastating fire in the sixteenth century.

The monastery holds 110 manuscripts in its library and contains eight chapels, four inside and four outside, each dedicated to different religious figures.

The monastery ranks twentieth in Mount Athos hierarchy and requires visitors to obtain special permits before accessing the religious complex.

The sanctuary screen within the katholikon features Athenian marble construction, while the chapel houses the Panagia Hodegetria Antiphonetria icon.
