Central Ostrobothnia

Central Ostrobothnia extends across 6,463 square kilometers, encompassing eight municipalities including its capital city Kokkola along the Bothnian Bay coastline.

The region underwent a significant administrative transformation in 2009 when it was officially established as a distinct administrative division within Finland's governmental structure.

The municipalities within Central Ostrobothnia maintain strong traditions in folk music and crafts, with regular performances and exhibitions throughout their cultural centers.

The region contains two primary sub-regions, Kaustinen and Kokkola, offering administrative services and educational facilities to approximately 67,736 residents.

Lake Lestijärvi stands as the principal water body in this region, where the Eurasian skylark soars as the official regional bird and gneiss forms the regional stone.
