Pyhäkero

Pyhäkero is a mountain summit in the Ounastunturi range, featuring marked trails that wind through pine forests and open wilderness. The area offers several routes for different activities and displays the characteristic landscapes of northern regions.

The mountain served as an important waypoint for people traveling between communities in Lapland over generations. These traditional paths connected different areas and remain recognizable in the landscape today.

The Sámi people live in these lands and practice reindeer herding as part of their way of life here. Visitors can observe how the landscape shapes daily activities and traditions of the local communities.

An 11-kilometer trail starts from the Mustavaarantie gate and leads to the summit through changing terrain. Mountain biking is permitted on specific marked paths, and visitors should be prepared for variable weather conditions typical of mountain areas.

A wilderness hut near the summit transforms into a seasonal skiers' café during late winter months. This unexpected stop provides shelter and refreshment for travelers crossing the snowy slopes.
