Särkitunturi

Särkitunturi is a mountain in Muonio reaching 492 meters in height and features a 3.2-kilometer hiking trail through forests to its rocky summit. Along the forested path, a barbecue hut with firewood supplies and facilities sits near a small lake at the midpoint of the route.

The summit once contained a lean-to shelter serving visitors until a fire destroyed it roughly a decade ago. This simple structure had long been an important rest spot for hikers making their way to the peak.

The location offers views of Pallastunturi fells, which are recognized as part of Finland's national landscape heritage. These vantage points reveal the characteristic northern mountain terrain that defines the region.

The hike requires appropriate footwear and can be done in any season, though weather in this highland area changes quickly. It is wise to bring weatherproof clothing and check daylight hours, especially during darker months.

Two small lakes with clear water sit in the summit area, offering complete panoramic views across the region from there. These waters mirror the landscape and create a calm contrast to the rocky peak above.
