Keimiötunturi, Fell in Muonio, Finland
Keimiötunturi is a fell in the Ounasselkä range that rises to about 614 meters, located near Lake Jerisjärvi in northern Finland. Its slopes are densely forested with coniferous trees and shrubs typical of the boreal zone.
The area has served as a fishing region since the 18th century, when traditional fishing huts were built near the water. This activity left traces that reveal centuries of human use of these northern lands.
The area around this fell remains central to Sami reindeer herding traditions, shaping how the landscape is used and perceived by indigenous communities. This practice continues to define the character of the region today.
Park your vehicle along Jerisjärventien road where designated spots are available before starting your hike. The trail winds through forest areas and can be muddy or slippery depending on weather conditions.
From the summit, the view stretches across Lake Jerisjärvi to the surrounding landscape, which transforms dramatically with the seasons. In autumn especially, the foliage shifts to warm tones that create a striking contrast with the dark evergreens.
