Drašnice

Drašnice is a coastal settlement on the Makarska Riviera stretched along the Adriatic shore with pebble beaches at its base and the Biokovo mountain rising steeply behind. Traditional stone buildings fill the village, connected by narrow pathways that descend toward the waterfront.

Written records of this place first appear in a Turkish document from 1523, marking its documented history. Archaeological remains such as Roman sarcophagi and medieval tombstones found nearby reveal that the area had been inhabited since ancient times.

The village divides into an older hillside section and a newer coastal area called Kraj centered around Saint George Church. Traditional stone homes and local fishing traditions shape how residents and visitors experience daily life here.

The village offers a pebble beach right at the water's edge for swimming and relaxation along the coast. Accommodations and services are positioned within easy walking distance, making it convenient to reach amenities from anywhere in the village.

The village's name comes from a thorny shrub species that grows throughout the Dalmatian region, connecting the place directly to its landscape. This botanical connection shows how the settlement drew its identity from the wild plants surrounding it.
