Gardun, Archaeological settlement near Trilj, Croatia
Located on a 339-meter plateau above the Cetina River, Gardun extends across 4.84 square kilometers of terrain in Split-Dalmatia County.
The settlement encompasses the remains of Tilurium, a Roman military camp that housed the Seventh Legion and controlled regional communications along the Cetina River.
The current population of 84 residents maintains Croatian traditions while living among the archaeological remnants of ancient Roman military structures.
Visitors can examine visible sections of Roman fortification walls on the western and northern edges of the settlement during daytime hours.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered Roman military equipment, luxury ceramics, glass items, and monetary artifacts beneath the modern village structures.
