Gardun

Gardun is a settlement perched on a plateau above the Cetina River, where surfaces of Roman walls and fortifications are visible. The site spreads across several square kilometers and shows traces of dwellings and military structures from ancient times.

The settlement began as Tilurium, a Roman military camp built to secure and control the region. The camp was eventually abandoned, but its walls and structures remained preserved in the landscape.

The name and layout of the settlement reflect its Roman past, which remains visible in the landscape today. Residents here live among ancient structures, giving daily life a connection to centuries-old history.

Visitors can explore the ruins best in daylight and should wear sturdy footwear because the terrain is uneven. Access to the site is straightforward, but there is little shade, so it is wise to bring a hat and water.

Excavations uncovered Roman military gear, skilled ceramics, and glass items that hint at the camp's importance. These finds suggest the settlement received valuable goods and imported items from distant places.
