Dubrava, Zagreb, Urban residential district in eastern Zagreb, Croatia
Dubrava is a large residential district in eastern Zagreb stretching between Maksimir forest and Sesvete. It is divided into Upper and Lower sections by Dubrava Avenue, with housing, shops, restaurants, and public services throughout.
The area emerged from oak forests in the 1930s when Slovene businessman Rade Hribar purchased land from the Catholic Church and divided it into plots. This early development pattern formed the foundation for the residential district that grew afterward.
The neighborhood took on a multicultural character after World War II as people arrived from different parts of Yugoslavia. This mixed heritage remains visible in the shops, food, and daily life throughout the streets.
The district connects easily to central Zagreb through multiple tram lines running along Dubrava Avenue. You can find shops, cafes, and local services distributed throughout the neighborhood.
The neighborhood contains Pionirski Grad, an educational center with sports grounds and an animation film school. This facility has served as an important creative and training hub since its early years.
