Csere-hegyi kilátó, Alsóörs, Stone observation tower in Alsóörs, Hungary
The Csere-hegyi kilátó is a red sandstone observation tower standing 11.5 meters tall on Csere Hill at 298 meters above sea level. It sits between Alsóörs and Balatonalmádi, offering views across the surrounding landscape.
This tower was built in 1935 as the first stone observation structure in the Balaton Uplands region. It underwent complete reconstruction in 2001 after years of deterioration.
The tower corners display the coats of arms of four Hungarian counties surrounding Lake Balaton: Veszprém, Fejér, Somogy, and Zala. These symbols connect the structure to the regional identity of the lake area.
You can reach the tower year-round via marked hiking trails from Alsóörs, following blue tourist signs from Endrődi Sándor Street. The route is clearly marked for easy access.
A 5-meter wooden extension was added during the 2001 renovation to compensate for trees that had grown taller around the site over many decades. This allowed the views from the platform to remain unobstructed.
