Casa memorială Mór Jókai din Balatonfüred

The villa is an eclectic-style residence with stone statues on its southern veranda and displays personal belongings of Mór Jókai such as his desk and telescope collection. The rooms preserve furniture and documents that reflect his daily life during his time there.

The house was built in 1870 after Jókai's first visit to Balatonfüred in 1857. The villa became his favored retreat and a place where he wrote some of his major literary works.

The house displays mineral and shell collections that Jókai gathered himself, along with drawings and miniatures he created there. These personal items reveal the writer's interests and artistic pursuits during his stays by the lake.

The site is best reached on foot using local pathways, as the area is relatively flat and walkable. Visitors should check ahead since group bookings require advance notice and opening hours vary seasonally.

From the terrace above the veranda, visitors overlook Lake Balaton and the Tihany peninsula, reflecting why the writer treasured this location. A stone statue of Flora has long guarded the entrance and remains a distinctive feature of the residence.
