Urban Public Transport Museum, Transportation museum in Szentendre, Hungary
The Urban Public Transport Museum is a museum in Szentendre that documents the history of public transportation in Hungary. Five exhibition halls and two display areas showcase vehicles, tools, and equipment from different periods of operation.
The building began as a railway depot constructed in 1914 to serve the suburban rail line. Decades later, in 1992, it was converted into a museum space dedicated to displaying and preserving transportation history.
The collection shows how public transportation shaped daily life in several Hungarian cities over many decades. Visitors can see old tickets, uniforms, and personal objects that reveal how central these systems were to how people moved around and lived.
The museum sits near the HÉV terminus station, making it straightforward to find. It operates seasonally, so checking current opening hours and getting directions before your visit is helpful.
The collection holds around 60 restored vehicles, including a railway wagon dating back to 1887. Many of these vehicles sit on the original tracks where they once ran daily service.
