Saints Peter and Paul Church, Szentendre

The Saints Peter and Paul Church is the largest religious building in Szentendre, marked by a 32-meter tower crowned with a pyramidal spire. This structure dominates the town's skyline and serves as a central landmark in the community.

Built in 1791 originally for the Serbian Orthodox community, the building was left behind when Serbian emigrants departed in the early 1900s with their religious items. The Catholic community then took over this vacant place of worship and continues to use it today.

The interior holds statues of Apostles Peter and Paul alongside a wooden Virgin Mary figure that blends Orthodox and Catholic artistic traditions. These works reveal how different faiths have shaped this place over time.

Access inside is usually limited to service times to respect the place of worship. Visitors who want to see the building can explore the exterior and appreciate the tower and decorated gates from the outside.

Two sides of the building are framed by ornamental gates made of red marble from 1790, decorated with fine stone carvings. These elaborate entrance doors stand as evidence of skilled craftsmanship from the time they were created.
