Annunciation Church

The Annunciation Church is a Baroque religious structure with a white exterior, decorative wall columns, large windows, and a prominent tower positioned at its western end. The interior features three vaulted sections covered by net-vaults and walls decorated with biblical scenes alongside a carved pulpit displaying Saint Nicholas's image.

The church was built between 1752 and 1754 following the arrival of Serbian refugees who fled the Balkans due to Turkish influence. This community established a thriving Orthodox settlement in Szentendre.

The church displays an ornate iconostasis created by Mihailo Živković with religious paintings arranged according to Orthodox tradition. Visitors can observe the detailed icons and their symbolic placement within the sacred space.

Visitors should prepare for longer wait times, particularly during weekends and the peak tourist season. The church grounds are easily accessible on foot and the interior is spacious enough for comfortable viewing.

The church's depiction of Saint Nicholas on the carved pulpit served not only as religious art but as a visual anchor for a community adapting to life in a new land. This imagery helped preserve the identity of Serbian settlers in an unfamiliar territory.
