Gyürky-Solymossy Castle & Park, Kisterenye, Late-baroque castle in Kisterenye, Bátonyterenye, Hungary

Gyürky–Solymossy Castle is a late-baroque, single-storey building with a mansard roof, two onion-domed corner towers and wooden shingle cladding, built around 1790 in the old park of Kisterenye. Its west facade has a domed tower at each corner, and the ground floor and upper floor each hold three vaulted rooms, with side rooms extended by tower balconies. A cornice runs around the building, and the east wing has a corner room on each side.

The Gyürky family built the late-baroque castle around 1790 and used it as a summer residence until the late 1840s. In the 1900s it passed by marriage to the Solymossy family, who had it rebuilt together with the park. After World War II it was abandoned, part of the ground-floor vault collapsed, and in 1982 it was structurally restored; the municipality of Bátonyterenye bought it in 1996 and began a full renovation.

A permanent exhibition titled "Life Carved in Wood" opened in 2003 in the castle, marking the centenary of sculptor István Szabó the Elder, who was born in Kisterenye. It displays his works, and two memorials by him stand before the western corners: one to writer Lajos Abonyi and one to Ábrahám Gyürky.

The castle stands in a 13-hectare protected old-growth park. Three ornamental gates lead out: the southern one toward the village, the western one toward the Kisterenye railway station, and the northern one toward the Bányatelep district. The cultural centre, library and a kindergarten operate on the castle's northern side.
