Nincskegyelem Cave

Nincskegyelem Cave is a pit cave beneath Naszály Mountain with vertical shafts and passages reaching 71 meters deep underground. It features multiple shafts, with two of them stretching 35 to 40 meters into the mountain.

The cave was discovered in March 2002 by the Naszály Speleological Group and protected as a natural site in 2005. Its designation happened because of its notable geological features.

The passages carry names with religious meanings such as Purgatory and Hell Shaft, which reflect how local cave explorers named the sections they discovered. These names grew from the impressions that early explorers had while moving through the narrow passages.

Visiting requires climbing experience and official permission from the Duna-Ipoly National Park management, since the entrance is very narrow. Visitors should arrive well-prepared with proper equipment to safely descend into the depths.

White mineral deposits and delicate aragonite needle crystals form distinctive patterns on the cave walls, becoming particularly visible under light. These fragile structures develop over long periods as water seeps through the rock.
