Szőlősi Arany Cave

Szőlőski Arany Cave is a natural formation near Vértesszőlős featuring a triangular entrance and an interior network of small chambers connected by narrow passages. A wide shaft extends about 10 meters into the ground, where water periodically flows through and shapes the rock with erosion patterns.

The cave first appeared in written records during the 1970s, though geologists had documented sinkholes in this region many decades earlier. This long history of observation reflects how the landscape's underground features have attracted scientific interest.

The Gerecse Cave Research and Nature Conservation Association conducts regular bat observations in the cave, monitoring four different bat species.

Expect temperatures between 7 and 10 degrees Celsius inside, so bring warm clothing for comfort. The entrance sits along a marked hiking trail, making it easy to locate and access.

The interior consists of small chambers, narrow corridors, and features a wide 10-meter-deep shaft, with periodic water absorption creating erosion patterns.
