Lengyel Cave

Lengyel Cave is a natural cave system near Tatabánya formed by water dissolving limestone rock underground. Inside are multiple chambers and passages that developed slowly over thousands of years.

The cave was occupied by humans around 17,000 to 15,000 years ago, as shown by archaeological discoveries. Remains found here suggest hunters used this space during a much colder climate period.

The cave contains stone tools and animal bones left by ancient hunters, showing how people once lived and worked in this space. These remains reveal daily survival practices of early communities in this region.

Access to the cave involves walking over uneven ground and requires good footing and balance. Wear sturdy shoes and bring appropriate clothing for changing conditions inside the rock formation.

The remains found here include reindeer and horse bones from a time when these animals roamed this region. This tells us the climate was dramatically different thousands of years ago.
