Crag Cave

Crag Cave is a limestone cave system near Castleisland with two distinct levels showcasing stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone formations. The accessible passages allow visitors to walk through chambers filled with these natural rock structures.

The cave was documented by geologists in 1859, but systematic exploration did not begin until 1981. Following this discovery, it was gradually opened to the public as an attraction.

Local people transformed part of the cave into a place where visitors could learn about the geology beneath the landscape. This made the underground passages something the community could share with others passing through.

The cave maintains a cool temperature year-round, so visitors should bring a light jacket regardless of the season. Information in multiple languages helps international visitors understand what they are seeing.

The cave passages run beneath the entire town, connecting different areas underground. It ranks among the longer cave systems in the country, making it surprisingly extensive for such a small location.
