Tory Island, Remote island in County Donegal, Ireland
The northerly inhabited island stretches across 3.5 square kilometers with steep cliffs shaped by Atlantic waves and four distinct settlements.
The island hosted a sixth-century monastery established by Colmcille until English troops destroyed the structure during a campaign in 1595.
Artists from Tory Island gained international recognition through galleries, following support from painter Derek Hill who established an art community.
Daily ferry services operate from Magheroarty and Bunbeg ports to Tory Island, with journey times of approximately 45 minutes each way.
The island maintains the tradition of selecting a local representative known as the King of Tory who greets visitors upon arrival.
