Pollatoomary, Underwater cave in Partry Mountains, County Mayo, Ireland
Located near Killavally, Westport, this limestone cave system features an extensive network of underwater passages reaching depths of 113 meters beneath the surface.
The cave was initially discovered in 1978 by cave diver Martyn Farr, who reached 33 meters depth during his first exploration of the submerged passages.
The cave represents a significant site for the international cave diving community, drawing experienced divers who seek to explore its challenging underwater passages.
Access to the cave entrance requires permission from the landowner as it sits on private farmland, and only certified cave divers can attempt underwater exploration.
The Aille River flows underground for 4 kilometers through limestone before resurfacing at the Pollatoomary cave system.
