Moher Tower, Napoleonic watchtower at Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
The stone tower stands at the southern end of the Cliffs of Moher, featuring two rectilinear bartizans on its eastern wall and one on the western wall.
Built in 1808 during the Napoleonic Wars, the tower replaced an earlier promontory fort named Mothar, using materials from the demolished structure for its construction.
The tower represents Ireland's coastal defense system, with its Irish name Túr an Mhothair reflecting the linguistic heritage of County Clare's maritime structures.
The structure functions as an emergency shelter for visitors who might need protection from Atlantic storms while walking the southern cliff path.
Native birds, particularly choughs, nest within the remnants of this two-story defensive building during summer months, adding natural life to the historical structure.
