Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, Irish technological university
The Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest is a university in four Irish counties with six locations in Athlone, Limerick, Thurles, Clonmel, and Ennis. It was formed in 2021 by merging the Athlone Institute of Technology and the Limerick Institute of Technology, and offers courses in engineering, health sciences, business, and creative arts.
The Limerick side traces back to the School of Ornamental Art founded in 1852, which later became the Limerick Institute of Technology. The Athlone side began in 1970 as a regional college, and both institutes formally merged in 2021 to create the new university.
The name refers to the Shannon, Ireland's longest river, which flows past the campuses. Students from many parts of the country work daily in modern spaces focused on practical projects and collaboration with local businesses.

The word Tús comes from the Irish language and means start or beginning, reflecting the spirit of a new institution. The university runs innovation hubs where students and staff can start businesses and receive support for developing ideas.
