Beit HaShita, Communal settlement in Gilboa Regional Council, Israel
Beit HaShita is a kibbutz in the Gilboa Region that spreads across agricultural land at the base of Gilboa Mountain in the eastern Jezreel Valley. The settlement sits at about 173 meters elevation and includes a new residential area with construction plots for future inhabitants.
The kibbutz was founded in 1935 and began by drilling its first water well to support agricultural development in the region. This establishment near the remains of Shata village marked the beginning of a new settlement in this area.
The Institute for Holidays and Jewish Culture here bridges traditions with modern life, creating space for both secular families and orthodox communities. Visitors can see how these different groups share the same settlement and maintain their distinct practices.
This place is best explored on foot, which allows you to take in the agricultural areas and the landscape around the mountain base. Good walking shoes and sun protection are recommended when visiting, as the valley can be exposed to intense weather.
During the 1973 war, this settlement suffered one of the highest proportional losses among all kibbutzim when eleven members lost their lives. This tragic event remains deeply embedded in the community's memory and identity.
