Shokek, Natural spring in Beth Shean Valley, Israel.
Shokek is a natural spring in the Beth Shean Valley in northern Israel, with water that stays at around 82°F (28°C) throughout the year. The spring feeds a series of shallow pools surrounded by trees and grass, flowing onward into small streams that cross the dry surrounding land.
The spring has supplied water to settlements in the Beth Shean Valley since ancient times, supporting life in a region where heat and dryness make water scarce. In the 1930s, pioneers from the nearby Kibbutz Nir David developed the area around it into a recreational space open to the public.
The spring sits within Gan HaShlosha National Park, known locally as Sachne, a Hebrew word meaning warm water. Families and locals swim in the natural pools throughout the year, making it one of the most visited outdoor spots in northern Israel.
The site is part of Gan HaShlosha National Park and is reached by marked paths from the park entrance. Coming early in the morning is a good idea, especially in summer, when the pools tend to fill up quickly on hot days.
The water temperature at the spring barely changes between seasons, which means the water feels warmer than the air in winter and cooler than the air in summer. This makes swimming here a different experience depending on the time of year you visit.
