Cave of Horror, Archaeological cave in Southern District, Israel
The Cave of Horror consists of natural chambers situated 76 meters below the cliff edge, featuring a near-vertical drop of 180 meters.
Archaeological excavations in 1961 revealed skeletal remains of 40 individuals who sought refuge during the Bar Kokhba revolt against Roman forces.
The cave contains significant artifacts including Bar Kokhba coins, fragments of letters, and pottery pieces inscribed with names of those who sheltered there.
Access to the cave requires specialized climbing equipment and professional guidance due to its location on a steep cliff face in the Judean Desert.
The cave yielded preserved scroll fragments from the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets, discovered during the 2019 archaeological expedition.
