Rehovot-in-the-Negev, Water well site in Southern District, Israel.
Rehovot-in-the-Negev is an ancient water source in the Southern District of Israel, located within a sparse desert landscape. The remains show stone structures from several building phases visible directly at the surface.
Excavations in the nineteen seventies brought to light evidence of water use from the time of the ancient Israelites. Later generations expanded the site and left visible traces of different eras.
The name recalls stories from scripture where wells marked places of peace and resolution between communities. Visitors today can see the carefully arranged stones that show how people in dry regions secured their survival.
The site lies open in the desert, so protect yourself from strong sun and bring enough drinking water. Access is possible via unpaved paths that are easiest to navigate in warm, dry weather.
The groundwater here passes through natural limestone layers that act as filters and improve water quality without technical intervention. This geological feature made the location usable as a water source for centuries.
