Shimshit, Community settlement in Jezreel Valley, Israel
Shimshit is a community settlement located in the Jezreel Valley at an elevation of 226 meters (741 feet) in northern Israel. The location offers sweeping views toward the Nazareth-Tir'an Mountains and the valley carved by Zippori creek.
The settlement was established in 2000 after the Housing Ministry withdrew from the project and left it in the hands of architect Tzibi Springer for planning and construction. This moment marked the transition from government-led development to private architectural oversight of the community.
The residential community maintains an admissions committee that reviews all potential residents, following specific settlement policies for population management.
The settlement connects to neighboring communities like Giv'at Ela, Rumat al-Heib, Ilut, and Zarzir through regional roads that make the area easy to explore. The road network provides straightforward access to surrounding villages and the broader valley region.
The modern settlement takes its name from Khirbet Shimshit, an ancient Roman-Byzantine village situated about one kilometer to the north. The name creates a link between the contemporary community and the archaeological remains of an earlier settlement in the same region.
