Bedouin Soldiers Memorial, Military memorial in Lower Galilee, Israel
The Bedouin Soldiers Memorial is a cenotaph and monument in Lower Galilee, Israel, made up of stone structures, gardens, and exhibition spaces. The site is divided into several areas, including an herb garden, a circular photo gallery, and an archive center.
The memorial was built in 1993 to honor Bedouin soldiers who died during military service. It was the first time the community's contribution to national defense was formally recognized in this way.
The memorial shows how military service has become part of how the Bedouin community is seen and recognized in public life. Visitors can look at personal documents, photographs, and objects that tell the stories of individual soldiers and their families.
The memorial sits near Hamovil Junction and is most easily reached by car. The site is open and spread across several areas, so comfortable shoes and a bit of time to walk between sections are a good idea.
The Garden of the Broken Heart uses natural grey rocks chosen for their resemblance to human figures, placed to honor soldiers whose graves are unknown or unreachable. The rocks were not carved or shaped but selected as they were found in nature.
