Warren's Shaft, Archaeological site near Gihon Spring in Jerusalem, Israel.
The vertical shaft extends 13 meters deep into limestone rock, connecting to a network of tunnels that reaches the Gihon Spring water source.
British engineer Charles Warren discovered this ancient water system in 1867 during excavations funded by the Palestine Exploration Fund.
The shaft holds connections to biblical texts describing David's conquest of Jerusalem, particularly regarding Joab's entry into the Jebusite city.
Visitors access the shaft through the City of David archaeological park, which provides guided tours of the underground water system.
Recent excavations revealed a fortified passage and spring tower from the Middle Bronze Age, indicating advanced engineering methods for water access.
