Yeruham

Yeruham is a development town in the Negev Desert, set between natural features including a crater and a lake. The settlement spreads across an area at approximately 500 meters elevation.

The settlement was founded in 1951 by Romanian immigrants as part of Israel's effort to populate frontier regions after independence. This founding followed a strategy to strengthen the presence in the southern territories.

The residents come from Morocco, Tunisia, Romania, India, Persia, and the former Soviet Union, each group celebrating their own holidays and keeping their customs alive. This mix of backgrounds shapes daily life and the character of the town.

The town has schools, religious institutions, and several factories that support local employment. Visitors should prepare for desert conditions and heat, especially during midday hours.

The area contains the Tel Rahma archaeological site with remains of ancient settlements from the 10th century BCE, including an old well. This site shows early human presence in this desert region.
