Legio

Legio is an archaeological site in the Jezreel Valley that reveals remains of an ancient settlement with stone foundations, walls, and intersecting streets from different periods. Excavations gradually uncover the layers of history at this location.

The Romans established a military base here as they expanded into the region, stationed with the Sixth Roman Legion. This location played a key role in controlling trade routes across the valley.

Pottery fragments and tools found here show how Roman soldiers and local people lived side by side. The artifacts reveal everyday objects that tell the story of this coexistence.

The site is accessible, though paths between excavation areas can be uneven and require sturdy footwear. It is wise to bring water and allow time for a slow walk through the ruins.
