Givon Art Gallery, Contemporary art gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel
Givon Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Tel Aviv, founded by Shmuel (Sam) Givon and run by his daughters Naomi Givon and Nurit Wolf. It began on Gordon Street, and in 2012 it opened the Givon Forum for Art in a renovated 1890 house in Neve Tzedek. It represents artists such as Raffi Lavie, Moshe Gershuni, Micha Ullman and Pinchas Cohen Gan.
Shmuel Givon, who had learned the art trade through his ties to Eliezer Rosenfeld of Galerie Rosenfeld, opened the gallery in 1975. Until the 1980s it showed modern Israeli artists; after Naomi Givon joined, it began exhibiting avant-garde figures such as Raffi Lavie and Moshe Gershuni. In 2012 it opened the Givon Forum for Art in Neve Tzedek.
The gallery's name comes from founder Shmuel Givon, and since 2000 it has awarded the Shmuel Givon Prize for new artwork, chosen and granted by the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Recipients include Guy Ben-Ner (2001), Talia Keinan (2004) and Nevet Yitzhak (2012).
Givon has two exhibition spaces: the main gallery on Gordon Street and the Givon Forum for Art at 3 Elroi Street in Neve Tzedek, opened in 2012 in a renovated 1890 house. Check which space holds the current show before setting out.
