Ein Afek Nature Reserve, Wetland nature reserve in Kiryat Bialik, Israel.
Ein Afek Nature Reserve is a wetland with freshwater marshes, swamps, and ponds that provide year-round homes for many waterfowl and aquatic creatures. Two walking trails cross the area: one winds above the wet zones, while the other reaches elevated ground with picnic spots.
The area formed in ancient times as an important site and developed over centuries through different periods of control. An old mill from the early Islamic period stands here and was later modified during the Crusader and Ottoman times.
The place connects to the biblical town of Aphik mentioned in ancient texts, and you can see archaeological traces of people living here since prehistoric times.
Visit during dry weather since the paths go through wet areas and moisture can make conditions harder. Proper shoes and weather protection help you walk both routes comfortably and watch the wildlife.
The reserve uses a special water management system introduced after serious droughts in the 1990s to protect natural habitats for the animals living there. This planned water control keeps the wetlands alive throughout the year.
