Vantawng Falls, Vertical waterfall in Serchhip district, India

Vantawng Falls drops 230 metres in a single unbroken column down a dark rock face on the Vanva River near Thenzawl. The water leaves a narrow notch at the top, widens as it falls, and breaks into a misty splash in a pool at the base. Dense trees and green vegetation cover the slopes on both sides.

The falls take their name from Vantawnga, a local swimmer who died during a swimming demonstration when a log struck him in the water. This tragic event became part of the site's local history.

The falls are named after Vantawnga, a swimmer said to have been able to hover in the cascading water like a fish until a drifting log fell from above and killed him. The name Vantawng Khawhthla keeps that story attached to the site, 5 km south of Thenzawl.

Visitors can view the falls from a dedicated viewing tower, since the steep hillsides make reaching the base difficult and unsafe. Sturdy footwear helps when exploring the surrounding paths and terrain.
