Vantawng Falls

Vantawng Falls, Vertical waterfall in Serchhip district, India

Vantawng Falls is a waterfall that drops roughly 229 meters down rocky cliffs in a single unbroken stream through dense forest. The water falls sheer and creates a striking visual effect as it descends.

The falls take their name from Vantawnga, a local swimmer who died during a swimming demonstration when a log struck him in the water. This tragic event became part of the site's local history.

The falls serve as a natural landmark that connects the Mizo people to their region and natural surroundings. Local residents view it as part of their territorial and cultural geography.

Visitors can view the falls from a dedicated viewing tower, since the steep hillsides make reaching the base difficult and unsafe. Sturdy footwear helps when exploring the surrounding paths and terrain.

The falls flow continuously throughout the year, making them active even during dry seasons. The white water stream can be spotted from the nearby town of Thenzawl from several kilometers away.
