Nalanda district

Nalanda is an administrative district located in southern Bihar state, with Bihar Sharif serving as its main administrative center. The district forms part of the Patna division and encompasses a broad area covering both urban and rural communities.

The district was created in 1972 when it separated from Patna to form its own administrative unit. The area is known for the remains of the ancient Nalanda University, which stood as a major center of learning from the fifth century until it declined in the twelfth century.

Hindi and Magahi are the main languages spoken in daily life here, shaping how people communicate in markets, schools, and public spaces. This linguistic foundation connects residents to broader cultural traditions across the region.
